Quicksand 2023

Directed by Andres Beltran and written by Matt Pitts, “Quicksand” explores the story of a couple on the brink of divorce who travel to South America. The film’s prologue in the rainforest sets the tone for a thrilling ride but fails to maintain the intensity in subsequent scenes due to disorienting fast cutting and an overwhelming score. Carolina Gaitán and Allan Hawco’s performances are convincing, but the screenplay lacks the necessary depth to fully immerse the audience in their struggles. As the couple gets stuck in the rainforest, the film attempts to portray reconciliation amidst peril, but it falls short of delivering a gripping and emotionally moving experience. “Quicksand” would have benefitted from more nuanced direction and a stronger screenplay.
